Coffee Done Right

Hmmm coffee. Delicious, aromatic, deeply satisfying, my morning date. That is coffee to me. But what I really wish is that I had more time in the morning to enjoy my coffee the way I dream it; in a beautiful, classy porcelain cup and preferably at least 50 years old. What can I say, I just love old china!  So when I came across this vintage Japanese demitasse set I jumped at it. It is simply exquisite!

This set was made by Tiger Yedi in Japan probably sometime between 1940s – 1960s and the craftsmanship is amazing. The design features beautiful red roses on a cobalt blue background and gold scrolls on both the cups and saucers. The demitasse cups are footed and the three stands as well as the handle are gilded.

The vibrant colors are quite striking against the very well preserved white porcelain and the cup’s handle reaches above the cup in the shape of a little heart. How adorable is that?

Each cup stands approx. 2″ tall and has a diameter of just a little over 2″. The saucer has a diameter of 4 1/2″. Both the cups and saucers have the gold Tioger Yedi stamps on the bottom.

This is a demitasse set so the cups are smaller than the regular ones. A demitasse has typically about 60–90 ml (2–3 fl oz) capacity — half the size of a full coffee cup (not to be confused with a tasse à café which is about 120 ml (4 fl oz)).

Demitasse (/ˈdɛmɨtæs/) = small cup used to serve Turkish coffee or espresso.

This demitasse set is a great collector piece and addition to one’s china collection. It is in excellent condition with no chips, no cracks and no fading in the gold or colors. And it also makes a great bridal or housewarming gift. You can find it in my Etsy store here.
